Prayer: Great God, for Your continued healing, we give You thanks and praise. Be with us today in all that we do today. As we sit or stand or walk we are comforted knowing that we live our life in Your love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
Luke 14: 1 – 6
Healing on the Sabbath part two. Again it is the Pharisees who set up a situation for Jesus. They have seen Jesus heal on the Sabbath right in the synagogue. But they are now wondering if Jesus will continue to heal on the Sabbath. Jesus goes to eat in the house of a prominent Pharisee. Everyone watches Jesus as a man suffering from some affliction comes into the sight of Jesus.
One of the Ten Commandments states that the Sabbath must be kept holy and absolutely no one is to work on the seventh day. This is found in Exodus 20: 9 – 10.
Jesus asks the Pharisees if it is lawful to heal on the Sabbath. And they do not answer him. The Pharisees did not answer Jesus because any answer they gave would have been incomplete. The Priests work on the Sabbath and led worship and offered sacrifices. People walked to worship. People taught and learned about God on the Sabbath. This was all part of observing the Sabbath – to worship God and to bring God’s rest to all peoples.
But does leading in worship and offering sacrifices and teaching become part of the Sabbath? For Jesus it certainly did. By Jesus healing the man on a Sabbath day, Jesus has fulfilled the object of Sabbath. The object of Sabbath is to worship and glorify God. And healing is of God.

Prayer: Thank You Divine Healer, that You embrace us with Your love and strength and wisdom and healing. May we remember to celebrate Your love each and every day. We thank You for the life of the Church – for the joys and for the sorrows. May each experience led us to fully rely upon You. This we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
