Prayer: Almighty God, may we too have the enthusiasm that the crowd did when listening to the words of Jesus. May the scriptures we read today instill within us a joy that is full and complete. May we rest and abide in Your words always. This we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Read St. Luke 5: 1 – 7
A crowd is surrounding Jesus, listening to him speak about the scriptures. In fact there are so many in the crowd and they all want to hear Jesus that they begin pushing in on him.
Jesus notices two boats are tied up by shore. Jesus gets into one boat and asks the fisherman to just go a little way out from shore. From the boat, Jesus teaches the people.
When Jesus finished teaching, he says to Simon to go into deep waters and drop the net. Simon starts to whine that they had been fishing all night and had caught nothing…. but at the last moment, Simon agrees to go out further in the boat and let out the net. When Simon lowers the net, there are so many fish captured in the net that Simon has to call for help or else his net will break.
Each time this week when we start to whine or say we would rather not do something, stop for a moment. Consider how changing his mind was the beginning of Simon opening his heart to Jesus’ call. When we ask that God’s will be done in our life, our lives are positively changed.
Today stop and look over your life last week. Were there any times when you changed your mind and it was a positive change?
Advent is all about change. Advent is the time we look inward and focus upon God rather than ourselves. Prepare the Way for the coming of the Christ Child.
Prayer: Prepare our hearts this day O God as we look at all the positive changes You have made in our life. With each decision we make today, Creator God, may we stop and offer You our decision so that we can follow in Your path of righteousness and hope.
Help us to make positive changes in our life so that we can bring the light of Christ to our neighbours. This we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.
